Whole Body Cryotherapy is the ‘super-cooling’ of the body in a non-invasive manner to temperatures ranging from -120 and -180-degrees Celsius for 2 – 4 minutes. Research suggests this may help support:
Optimum energy levels
Healthy sleep patterns
The appearance of cellulite and skin aging
How does a Cryotherapy session work?
Whole Body Cryotherapy is a non-invasive treatment that has a growing following world-wide.
You step into the Cryo Pod, which surrounds your body from the neck down.
Using liquid nitrogen to generate extremely cold air that circulates around your body (you are not in direct contact with the gas), you are exposed to temperatures ranging from -120 to -180 degrees Celsius for 2 to 4 minutes. This super-cooling is believed to stimulate blood circulation, promoting healing and recovery.
Blood vessels narrow sending blood inwards
Cold air constricts the body’s peripheral tissues, sending blood from the skin, muscle tissue and surrounding joint space to vital organs. This is a natural survival process your body does in cold environments to retain essential body heat. It is called vasoconstriction, and involves the narrowing of blood vessels resulting from the contraction of the muscular wall of the vessels, in particular the large arteries and small arterioles.
Blood vessels widen sending blood outwards
Once you step out of the Cryo Pod, your body immediately begins vasodilation, which is the widening of blood vessels, increasing blood flow to tissue that needs it most. It is thought this physiological response stimulates the healing process.
Cryotherapy has been shown to reduce inflammation and pain after exercise, as well as ease muscle fatigue and promote healing and speed recovery.
With important implications for sports, cryotherapy has been shown to reduce inflammation and pain after exercise, as well as ease muscle fatigue and promote healing and speed recovery. Cryotherapy is also said to support athletic performance, healthy metabolism, optimum energy levels and healthy sleep patterns.
Anti-aging benefits include supporting the production of collagen and the appearance of cellulite and skin aging. Its suggested wellness and beauty benefits have made it popular with a growing number of A-list celebrities.
